The aim of the Master’s Degree Program is to enable the student to acquire professional skills in the various sectors of film music production: learning music techniques for films, TV, commercials, documentaries and video games. The curriculum includes Composition, Audio Mixing Techniques, Film Editing, Dramatic Orchestration and Score Preparation, Computer/Synth App for Film, Recording Techniques, SFX Techniques, Recording Tech, Music composition and Implementation for Video Games, Music Production and Music Business.

During the course, students will interface with live performers for a recording session in a professional recording studio.

    INTRODUCTION TO FILM SCORING

    An investigation into the aesthetic relationship between Film and Music. Discussion, analysis and study of the terminology linked to the multiple functions of cinematographic music.

    COMPUTER/SYNTH APP FOR FILM

    Examination, composition and techniques of the various functions of film music through Digital Audio WorkStation (Digital Performer), Writing Software Finale, Dorico, Sibelius, Staffpad.

    FILM EDITING Principles & Techniques Explained

    Film Editing Techniques. Students will learn how to edit audio tracks and how to create a temp track over video.

    AUDIO RECORDING TECH

    Elements of Acoustics and Electroacoustics, the Recording Chain, Microphone Recording, Audio Signal Processing.

    MIXING THE FILM SCORE

    Creation of Strips, Stems, Algorithmic & Convolution Reverb, Pre Mixing, EQ and Compressor.

    PROFESSIONAL MIXING AND MASTERING

    Aimed at composers and producers, this course introduces various professional mixing and mastering techniques using exclusively music software.

    DRAMATIC ORCHESTRATION AND SCORE PREPARATION

    Analysis of orchestral scores of film music. Study of Orchestral Harmony for Films, extension and structure of the classical and ethnic orchestra instruments.

    DRAMATIC SCORING

    The students will develop various projects relating to the different areas of film music (Film Cues, Trailers, Main Titles, Short Movies, Cartoons).

    COMMERCIAL AND DOCUMENTARY MUSIC TECHNIQUES

    Analysis and composition of music for advertising, television and documentaries.

    MUSIC FOR VIDEO GAMES

    Analysis and composition techniques of music for video games (Branching, Layering, Cross Fading and Transition). Implementation of Interactive Music through Audio Middleware such as (Fmod and Wwise) on Unity and Unreal platforms.

    AUDIO POST-PRODUCTION

    This course covers the tools and techniques used in the audio post-production process and how to apply these skills in an original and creative way.

    SOUND SYNTHESIS

    In Sound Synthesis, you will learn audio acoustic theory and how to produce sounds using analog and digital synthesizers.

    MUSIC BUSINESS

    Film music marketing techniques and how to find work within the industry, contracts, copyright and sound libraries.

    SEO DEVELOPING

    how to optimise your online presence, from purchasing a domain to creating a landing page on Film Composer via the WordPress platform.. You will be able to apply the most advanced SEO techniques for best positioning on Google and you will learn how to structure a Google Ads campaign for your website.

    INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOPS

    During the master's degree, students will participate in several international online workshops with composers in the following areas (Film, Commercials, Documentary, Video Games). Previous workshops have featured with Norman Ludwin (Orchestrator Michael Giacchino), Richard Davis (Orchestrator Michael Kamen), Dario Eskenazi (Berklee Teacher), Michael Sweet (Berklee Teacher), Lena Glikson (Stranger Things Film Editor).

    SOUND DESIGN FOR FILM

    During these lessons you will learn the computer programming language for creating your own sound libraries for sale or personal use, using the Kontakt Sampler.

    INTERNSHIPS/PROJECT WORK

    Orchestration & Recording Session

    Project Work in Orchestration and Orchestral Music Production for a Silent Film or Short Film, including online professional recording session at Mancarella Recording Studio (LE) where students will record their soundtrack with orchestra, using punches and streamers, variable click and click techniques.

    Game Music Advanced

    Project Work in Games Music, students will collaborate with Made Waves of Los Angeles for the composition and implementation of music for games.

    Film Editing

    Project Work in Film Film Editing with a Film Audio Editor.

    Mixing & Mastering Advanced

    Project Work in Mixing and Mastering with Sound Engineer from Skywalker Sound in Los Angeles.

    Film Scoring

    Project Work in Film Scoring with a Film Composer.

    Commercial & Documentary Advanced

    Project Work in Music for Advertising with Gratitude Sound of Boston.

    Professional opportunities for a career in Film Scoring

    Film Composer

    Also referred to as Film Scorer.
    Film composers create the musical scores that accompany films.

    Assistant to the Composer

    Composer assistant, composer or technical assistant.
    A composer's assistant helps make the composer through a combination of technical, musical and day-to-day support.

    TV Composer

    Television composers write the themes, soundtrack and source music used in television shows.

    Video Game Composer

    Video game composers create musical scores for video games and deploy them via Fmod and Wwise on a variety of platforms, including consoles, mobile phones, personal computers, and virtual and augmented reality systems.

    Orchestral Mock-Up Engineer
    The Orchestral mock-up technician has the task of producing sampled scores of orchestral music through sound libraries, making the production as close as possible to a live performance.

    Copyst

    Copyists are responsible for proofreading and preparing individual parts for performances and recording sessions.(Concert and stage or film, TV and video games) also called Music Prep.

    Music Editor
    Music editors are responsible for editing and synchronizing the music used in films and television with the action taking place on screen, along with a number of other important tasks.

    Music Supervisor for film, TV and Videogames

     Music supervisors skillfully select and license pre-existing songs and recordings for use in films, television programs and video games.

    Orchestrator for film e TV
    Orchestrators play an important role in the film and television industries, where they create finished scores based on the sketches of composers in those industries. MIDI orchestrators, a distinct group, forgo traditional orchestration techniques, instead specializing in the use of samples to improve the quality of demonstrations.

    Sound Engineer
    The sound engineer has the task of mixing the recorded audio tracks, cleaning the recorded dialogues from any background noise, creating the overall audio dubbing and the final mastering.

    Music Producer.
    The music producer has the role of self-producing his own music, editing it and mastering it for sale.
